Residency Program

Advanced Desert Dermatology Residency Program

The residency program in dermatology at Advanced Desert Dermatology provides experience in outpatient and inpatient settings. Residents will receive training in multiple dermatology topics including: Acne, psoriasis, eczema, radiation oncology, Mohs micrographic surgery, dermatopathology, dermatology surgery, mycology, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric dermatology. This list is not fully inclusive of all topics that our residents will be trained in, but it is a basic representation. Our residents have opportunities for elective rotations where they can spend time in specialty clinics that allow them exposure to challenging cases.

Research also encouraged during their three year residency. Residents are encouraged to participate in and design limited laboratory investigational or clinical outcomes research that can be carried out and completed during their three year program. Residents are expected to submit their studies for publication and present their research at national meetings.

While Advanced Desert Dermatology serves as home base for the residency, residents rotate through several training sites for clinical training. Residents will spend their time in Peoria, Sierra Vista, and Mesa.

First Year

During the first year, residents gain experience in general medical dermatology and surgery in the clinic setting at one of our training sites. Residents also spend time in dermatopathology and radiation oncology.

Second Year

Second year residents will have the opportunity to start training in Mohs micrographic surgery. Residents will also perform in-patient consultations at Sierra Vista Regional Health Center and one of our local long term care homes.

Third Year

During the last year of residency, residents assume greater responsibility for patient care.

Seminars and Conferences

Our program has an active didactic schedule for the residents which includes: dermatology grand rounds, dermatopathology sessions, journal club, and regular weekly conferences. Our program also participates in regular basic medical science lectures provided by our OPTI, Midwestern University.
